The United States is in the middle of "March Madness", the annual NCAA tournament that selects the Men and Women's collegiate National Champions in the sport of basketball. Fans of collegiate sports in all parts of the country are always completely devoted to their particular alma mater or team of choice. Untold millions of dollars are spent on game tickets, travel expenses (gas, food, lodging, airline tickets, etc.), parking, and souvenirs. At no time of the year are college sports fans more dedicated and committed to their team than during the basketball tournament time called "March Madness." You only have to watch a few games of the tournament to see the enthusiasm, the attire and "body art", and the overall involvement of the fans that attend the Regional and Final Four games.
The souvenir industry has taken especial note of the support that fans of the collegiate scene exhibit by their purchase of all kinds of team identification paraphernalia. Fans of college teams will buy anything and everything that relates to their team. From apparel and game shakers to coffee mugs and area rugs, seats, pens and jewelry to literally ANYTHING that can screen printed, etched, colored or somehow logoed, the devout fan will lay out the bucks to have at least one of it. Vanity car tags, the paint job on cars, tattoos, ties that play team fight songs-everything is fair game for the industry that supports the fan that supports his team. A lot of these items make an appearance only during the particular sports season underway at the time and then are put away until next year's kickoff or tip off or first pitch.
Floor coverings have not escaped the attention of the providers of fan merchandise. What better way to show visitors to your home or office where your team loyalties lie than to have a team logo area rug greet them as they enter? And this is an item that is utilized all year, not just during a specific sports season.
Rugs with team logos on them are usually printed in bright colors with standout type designs. They are definitely attention-getters and immediately become a conversation piece with first-time visitors. After all, how can you miss a three-foot white "T" on a bright orange background placed in the middle of the floor right where you walk? (The white "T" and orange background is the logo of the University of Tennessee Volunteers.)
Manufacturers of college logo area rugs have designed screen prints for most of the major collegiate teams. The designs are true to the teams' official logos and colors and match the designs and color combinations of other memorabilia that the avid fan may posses. Sizes usually include 4'x 6' and 5'x 8'. You can even special order larger rugs that can cover most of the floor area in a room.
The area rugs usually come with a non-skid backing of some kind to control slippage. Shipping times vary but can take up to several weeks. You may not be able to find an area rug with your team's logo on it in your local sporting goods store or team apparel shop but the Internet includes several sources from which you may purchase your floor covering.
And, of course, the team-logoed area rug is a functional floor covering. Besides the team identification aspect, these rugs provide protection for your wood or ceramic floors and add color and interest to your room décor. To the sports fan that has "everything", an area rug imprinted with the team logo might just be the next "must-have" purchase.
